When Guusje and her friends realised during the Christmas holidays how many people are alone, they decided to set a joint good intention. It was time to give something back! And they put their words into action! The 30 residents of the elderly home de Cordaan had an unforgettable evening! The girls are full of enthusiasm and are jumping to bring even more elderly homes a fantastic evening!   

How did you come up with the idea that it was time to give something back? 

"During a girls' night just before Christmas, the topic suddenly came up. We all found it so difficult to see that some people are very lonely. Especially during the Christmas period, where it is all about togetherness, this stands out a lot. So we decided to join forces and come up with a plan."

How did you get this plan off the ground? 

"We came up with the idea to raise money first. That makes it so much easier to get a plan off the ground! We used the app Potje for that. We created a Potje and asked people to donate. Before we knew it, we had raised 555 euros!  We decided to approach various elderly homes. Elderly home de Cordaan in Amsterdam was the first home to respond, which is why we organised the first evening here!"

Tell us, how was it?! 

"It was actually much more special than we expected. Of course, it is always great to give something back; however, we could never have dreamed of so much enthusiasm! 

There are 30 residents in this home with a mild intellectual disability, aged 70 and above, and some have no family left at all. It was wonderful to see how much the caregivers care for the elderly, and we noticed that this game night was something they had never experienced before. And it was so appreciated! "

"It was so special to see how everyone blossomed that evening. It is such a small thing, but it makes such a big difference for these people! And we also went home with full hearts!"

What are you going to do with the rest of the money? 

"Yes, it is so great that we still have quite a bit of money left! We want to try to visit a different elderly home every month, and perhaps we can even return to the same homes! 

It is so nice to give something back, and this target group is often forgotten! And yet, we will (hopefully) all reach the point where we belong to this target group. That is why it is so important!"

What else would you like to share? 

"With this initiative, we want to show the Netherlands how easy it is to give something back. Because why would you spend the whole evening on the couch when you can also perform miracles? It is something beautiful and special. Something that many more people should actually do! And how easy is it?"
